As you can see, argentina is a beautiful country bursting with life and culture.
In this section we will talk to you about argentina's culture, geogrophy, economy, government, and more.

Economy

Argentina has recently had an economic collapse. As you can see in the video even children are smoking peco (a coco leaf mixture that causes brain damage.)

100 years ago it was one of the wealthiest countries, they suffered greatly after recurring economic crises. A severe depression, growing public and external indebtedness, and a bank run in 2001 is the most economical, social, and political crises yet to hit this country.
Quote from president Dwight D. Eisenhower
Quote from president Dwight D. Eisenhower

The GDP of Argentina is $558 billion

GDP – Composition by Sector

agriculture: 6%
industry: 32%
services: 62%

Their population below poverty line is 13.9%

Their public debt is 49.1% of the GDP! That’s $273,978,000,000!!! That shows how much damage 100 years of economic crisis can do.

Argentina’s main agricultural products are sunflower seeds, lemons, soybeans, grapes, corn, tobacco, peanuts, tea, wheat; livestock.

Their industries are food processing, motor vehicles, consumer durables, textiles, chemicals and petrochemicals, printing, metallurgy, steel.

Their industrial production growth rate is only .4%

They do produce an amazing 792,300 bbl/day. Because of this they only import a little over 52,000 bbl/day. They export ruffle 314,400 bbl/day.

The natural gas production is 44.06 billion cu m!

Here’s their export partner percents, Brazil 18.9%, China 9.1%, US 7.9%, Chile 6.7%, Netherlands 4.2%

Their import partners percents are Brazil 31.3%, China 12.4%, US 12.2%, Germany 4.4%

As you can see from the data I typed up, with this big economic crash Aentina is now not really involved with the rest of the world. They have alot of debt and do not import and export things. This could affect aregentina later after there debt is over with.

Culture

Here's a link that will show you how you would act or the right Etiquette and culture. website

As you see in the video there was a lot of meat. Argentinas main food source is meat. Since it is pretty far south it is hard to grow crops. And yes, food is part of culture.
Also Argentina has a wide variety of languages. They mainly speak Spanish but it has a more of an Italian accent. They also speak Italian, German, English, and Spanish. A lot of different religions are present in Argentina. It is mainly Roman Catholic at 92 percent, but about only 20 percent are actively practicing it. Next comes in protestant and then Jewish. Both have 2 percent. Finally there are a lot of little different religions but it is only 4 percent of the population. There are also different ethnic backgrounds. White is the most dominate which is mainly Spanish and Italian. Then comes non-American with less than 5 percent of the population.
Dancing is also something big in Argentina. The main dances include the tango. It is the biggest and most popular of all of the dances. It is the symbolic show of culture in Argentina. The other dance is folklore. It’s more of a traditional dance.

Argentina boasts many sports. They include polo, rugby, hockey, car racing, soccer, boxing, skiing, hunting and fishing. Polo is mostly like croquette and soccer combined. The players are on horseback while they are trying to score in the opposing teams goal (like a soccer goal). Rugby is basically like football, just a little different.
The life expectancy is also a part of the Argentina culture. For men it is 73years, while for women it is 79 years old. Those are just the averages, not the actual for everyone. Literacy rate also fits into culture. For Argentina it is 3.7% for people that are 15 years or older that can’t read or write.

The holidays in Argentina are big in the culture. The first is on January 1and is new years. It is a national holiday. And the next is in March or April and it is Easter and Good Friday. It’s also a national holiday. The next big one is Labor Day on May 1. It’s another national holiday. Next on June 20 is Flag Day. Still it’s a national holiday. Then on
First Week of October comes Oktoberfest which is a festival and not national. Last on December 25 is Christmas day. It is a religious holiday.

Climate

Argentina has four main types of climates: warm, moderate, arid, and cold. Argentina has subtropical temperture most of the time with no dry season. The area of moderate climates includes the province of Buenos Aires, a large area of Entre Rios, centre and south of Santa Fe, the eastern part of Cordoba and a part to the north east of La Pampa. The arid climates are in a high plateau called La Puna, Catamarca's Andes, La Rioja and San Juan, and Patagonia extra–andean. Among the cold climates is the humid strip of the Patagonian Andes, forme by a series of rains that occur north to south in this cordilleran area. The snowy climate is of glacial type and includes the area of austral cordillera, in the zone of continental ice of Santa Cruz and in glaciers places in the high Patagonian mountain chain.

Government

external image democracy-2-0.jpg
One time the Argentineans made a big riot in the streets that lasted for days. They were protesting about the terrible economy and how they wanted a democracy. They chanted things like “We will die with glory”. One lady stood up and said “You can’t even shoot a lady!? How are you going to stop a whole country from protesting if you can’t even kill a old lady?” And after a day or so the government got mad, very mad. They shot people, whipped people, hit people with bats, and threw grenades! Ever heard of something like that? Tiananmen Square possibly? Oh yah that is what it’s like; riots, shooting, whipping, somebody standing up, ect. See the connection? A lot of countries are the same. And just like this one the other countries stand up for their rights.

Soon the people got what they wanted. A democracy with three branches of government, the judicial, the executive, and the legislative branch. The current president for Argentina is Cristiana Fernandez.

The capital of the country is Buenos Aires. And the constitution for Argentina was created on May 1st, 1853. This happened after Argentina got its independence from Spain on July, 9th 1816. And now the national holiday is revolution day, which happened on May 25th, 1810.

History

You may think that Spain started up Argentina directly, but it was actually that the Spaniards set up colonies in Peru and Chile and then moved in to Argentina. This happened in the early 1700’s, around 1726. The capital city of Buenos Aries had only 2200 people in population.
There has been conflict among Argentina, and their military is a well-organized military with three main branches, similar to us (U.S.A.), with a Navy, Air force, and Army.

Argentina has had a civil war in the early 1800’s after obtaining their independence from Spain on July 9th, 1816. The war was from 1826- 1828, this all started because a new constitution was written and a new president, Bernardino Rivadavia, was elected in order to unify the country. The provinces took offence to this so Bernardino Rivadavia resigned and the civil war started.
Argentina had another war called the “Falklands War” which took place in April 2nd, 1982. 5000 Argentinean troop came into the Falklands claiming sovereign rights over them as the Islas Malvinas. The defending British garrison of eighty-one marines is easily overwhelmed. General Galtieri pays a triumphal visit to Port Stanley, the islands' capital.

On May 3rd, the Argentinean cruiser General Belgrano was torpedoed and sinks with heavy casualties and with 368 dead. This becomes the most controversial event of the war, because of allegations that the ship was outside the exclusion zone and was heading away from it. The following day the British destroyer HMS Sheffield is hit by an Exocet missile, with the loss of twenty Argentinean men. The casualties in the war number 655 Argentinean dead and 255 British.
